Celebrating Holiday Cheer Across the County

More Than 1,000 Families Received Gifts and Holiday Food Baskets

Los Angeles County, December 21, 2021 - Throughout the month of December, the Los Angeles County Development Authority (LACDA) partnered with local community organizations and volunteers to help bring holiday joy to hundreds of Los Angeles County residents.

Events at the County’s public housing communities ranged from grab-and-go distributions, home deliveries, and drive-thru giveaways, to ensure every home was serviced. During these events, nearly 600 youth received holiday gifts and 300 families received food baskets. Additionally, there was also music, food trucks, and COVID-19 vaccines available for residents.

A special highlight of the festivities included the continuation of the “Spread the Cheer” drive for public housing seniors across Los Angeles County. Over 1,600 holiday cheer bags were distributed, offering socks, slippers, art kits, and hand sanitizers. Senior residents were greeted with warm and well wishes as the items were delivered to their doorsteps.

The Community Resource Center (CRC) in South Whittier also held its 25th Annual Holiday Basket Giveaway. Approximately 100 families received boxes filled with all the trimmings for a holiday meal in a socially-distance manner. Pre-registered families from the South, East, and West Whittier unincorporated areas participated in a drive-thru giveaway, which occurred over a four-day period.

Emilio Salas, LACDA Executive Director, said, “All of us at the LACDA understand that the holiday season may be difficult – whether experiencing loss or dealing with financial strain. That’s why we come together at the end of each year to support our residents, provide gifts, food, and resources, and bring a little holiday cheer!”

These Countywide holiday events were made possible through the outpouring support from the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department, Shelter Partnership, Los Angeles County Library, Cottonwood Church, the Long Beach Parks and Recreation, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Women In Action Reaching Out, HOPE Church of East Los Angeles, and many others who graciously provided toys, food, and monetary donations to help give a touch of cheer to our youth, families, and senior residents this holiday season.
