County Public Housing Families Receive Heartfelt Food Assistance for Thanksgiving Celebrations

November 26, 2025 – With Thanksgiving around the corner, the Los Angeles County Development Authority (LACDA) and local organizations joined forces to distribute much needed groceries, food baskets, turkeys, and in some instances, comforting fully cooked meals to Los Angeles County public housing families.

The South Scattered Sites families and South Bay Gardens seniors received food boxes that were generously donated by the office of Los Angeles County Second District Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell. In total, 150 boxes were successfully distributed.

The Live Yo Life Organization also partnered with the LACDA to provide South Bay Gardens seniors with freshly prepared Thanksgiving meals. The comforting and nourishing food was distributed as a grab and go to provide a quick and accessible option to residents.

Through the dedicated efforts and partnership with the New World Academy, Rolling Hills Covenant Church, and the Boys and Girls Club, residents at the Harbor Hills public housing development were gifted over 90 turkeys, along with essential groceries to complete their festive meals. At Nueva Maravilla, dinner boxes were presented and made possible through a partnership with the East Los Angeles Community College Criminal Justice Club. More than 125 Nueva Maravilla families received dinner boxes.

At Carmelitos, a Thanksgiving giveaway event provided 180 families with the necessities to complete their holiday meals. The Church of Destiny, located near the Carmelitos community, generously donated 100 turkeys to families. ALDI grocery store gift cards, donated by Sowing Seeds of Change, were also distributed to help ease the cost of groceries for senior residents. Greek-life organizations, such as Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, volunteered in large numbers at the event to help organize and distribute donations, including over 40 food baskets provided by the Long Beach Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

“Thank you to our valued partners and LACDA staff who are committed to serving our public housing families with support, generosity, and hope, especially during the holiday season,” said Emilio Salas, LACDA Executive Director. “The collaborative efforts allowed over 400 families the opportunity to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal without feeling the cost burden for the celebration.”
